MAHRS Alumni Stories
Hi, I’m Pokiza. I’m currently in the third month of my internship at ANFREL (Asian Network
for Free Elections), based in Bangkok, Thailand. This journey has already been incredibly
enriching — I’ve gained a lot of knowledge and hands-on experience. Recently, I had the
opportunity to serve as a Long-Term International Election Observer during the 2025 National
and Local Elections in the Philippines. I observed electoral processes in two provinces and four
cities, ensuring that fair and transparent elections were being held.
This experience gave me not only a deeper understanding of elections and democracy but also
helped me discover new strengths in myself, like quick decision-making, smart problem-solving,
and adapting fast under pressure. It also gave me the chance to meet intelligent and inspiring
people from different parts of the world who are experts in their fields.
I still have two more months to go, and there is still so much more for me to learn — both here
and in this field. I’m deeply grateful for this opportunity.
Thank you to ANFRE, Global Campus of Human Rights, and the OSCE Academy for their
support. I highly recommend applying to the MAHRS program in Central Asia for anyone
interested in building a career in human rights. It’s a powerful step toward strengthening
democracy, and let’s create a world together where human rights are always respected!
