Beyond the Classroom: Where Students Lead, Create, and Inspire

About Us

Our students go far beyond the classroom — literally and figuratively. In addition to their studies, they gain real-world experience through internships across Europe, actively participate in international conferences, and engage in dynamic dialogues during Global Classrooms with peers from around the world. Through our mobility program, they also spend part of their studies at partner universities, immersing themselves in new academic environments and cultures. These experiences shape them into globally-minded, practice-ready professionals equipped to lead and inspire change.

Journeys That Inspire

Interning for Impact: Pokiza Juraeva at ANFREL

Pokiza Juraeva’s journey is a testament to ambition and global engagement. She was awarded the prestigious Global Campus Internship Award of 5,000 EUR, which supported her five-month internship at the Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL) in Bangkok, Thailand. Through this experience, Pokiza contributed to advancing electoral transparency and democratic participation in Asia—turning academic knowledge into meaningful impact on the ground.

Akylai’s Path to Becoming a Regional Human Rights Correspondent

After graduating from the MAHRS programme, Akylai Tenizbaeva became a Regional Correspondent for the Global Campus Human Rights Preparedness Blog—an opportunity offered exclusively to alumni. In this role, she researches and writes on human rights challenges in Central Asia, focusing on vulnerable groups such as women, children, migrants, and workers. Her article “Poverty Trap as a Barrier to Human Rights in Kyrgyzstan” highlights how chronic poverty undermines basic rights, while “Environmental Injustice and Commuting Struggles in Bishkek” links urban planning failures to environmental inequality. This experience has deepened Akylai’s commitment to making research accessible and amplifying underrepresented voices.

Uulzhan at UCSC: Learning from Global Changemakers

Uulzhan Bekturova joined changemakers from around the globe at the 10th Anniversary of the Right Livelihood Center in California. As part of a select group of Global Campus students, she participated in the Right Livelihood International Conference at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC). The event brought together Right Livelihood Laureates, global activists, and students for powerful conversations on sustainability, justice, and the future of our planet. One of the highlights was a trailblazing dialogue between Silicon Valley leaders and laureates on extractivism and the clean energy transition — a space where Uulzhan contributed her perspective as a student of human rights and sustainability.

When I was searching for a Master's programme, like many others, I had a few key criteria in mind: a strong curriculum, experienced professors, and the opportunity to deepen my knowledge in Human Rights and the Sustainable Development Goals. The MAHRS programme not only met these expectations, it exceeded them.
As a student of MAHRS, I’ve had the chance to grow both academically and personally. The programme has expanded my understanding of global issues through the guidance of highly experienced professors. It also gave me the platform to bring some of my ideas to life, connect with inspiring peers from our region and beyond, and most importantly, gain international experience through mobility and internship opportunities. If during your Bachelor's you were looking for opportunities, in MAHRS, opportunities will find you.
Before applying, I wasn’t familiar with the Global Campus of Human Rights or what it meant to be part of one of its regional hubs. Now, as an intern at the Global Campus Headquarters, I truly understand the value and vision of this network—and I’m proud to be part of this global community. If you're looking for a programme with a dynamic curriculum and professors from across the globe with deep expertise, don’t hesitate - just apply. Be prepared for an intensive, module-based structure of the programme, engaging discussions, and thought-provoking conferences on Human Rights and SDGs.

Studying in the MA in Human Rights and Sustainability programme was one of the most intense and rewarding chapters of my life. Getting accepted into the programme was already a challenge - it’s highly competitive, with many talented applicants from all over the world competing for a limited number of places. But studying there turned out to be even more demanding. But looking back, I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything. What really helped me get through it were the amazing professors - people who didn’t just lecture, but constantly challenged us to think deeper, ask uncomfortable questions, and go beyond the surface. They taught me how to think critically and to love learning again.
And honestly, the people I met made all the difference. I built real friendships - with classmates who became like family, and with other students from different programmes who opened my eyes to so many new perspectives. The scholarship support also helped a lot - it took off the financial pressure and let me focus on learning and growing.
There were times when I didn’t think I’d make it to the finish line - but here I am, having completed the programme, and quite successfully. That’s why “It always seems impossible until it’s done.

Building Peace Through Practice: Saikal Malik Kyzy’s Internship at CRISP

As part of her professional development, Saikal Malik Kyzy completed an internship at CRISP, an international NGO focused on peacebuilding and civic education. At CRISP, she had the opportunity to apply her academic knowledge in a practical setting, contributing meaningfully to the organization’s ongoing and new projects. Integrated fully into the team, Saikal worked closely with colleagues in daily operations and project planning, taking on responsibilities aligned with her personal interests and skills. The experience not only deepened her understanding of NGO work but also strengthened her ability to collaborate in international, impact-driven environments.

Kristina’s Sustainability Mission in Vienna

Kristina Ryabova embraced the spirit of academic exploration and sustainability. With the support of Global Campus Central Asia, she completed a two-month internship at the University of Sustainability in Vienna, Austria. During her time there, Kristina engaged in cutting-edge research and practical initiatives focused on sustainable development, gaining valuable insights into European approaches to global environmental challenges.

Bridging Academia and Impact: Darya at Eurac Research

Darya Vasilenko completed a two-month internship at Eurac Research, an interdisciplinary institute focused on applied research in the fields of autonomy, minority rights, and sustainable development. During her time there, Darya engaged with international experts, contributing to projects that align closely with her academic background and passion for human rights. The experience allowed her to deepen her understanding of research methodologies and policy-oriented analysis, while also gaining insight into the real-world impact of interdisciplinary cooperation. Her internship at Eurac marked a significant step in her journey toward becoming a well-rounded researcher and advocate in the field of human rights.

The MAHRS programme is a unique, fully funded opportunity that combines academic excellence with practical experience in the field of human rights and sustainability in Central Asia. As a part of the Global Campus of Human Rights, the programme has a wide range of partnerships with other universities. The interdisciplinary nature of the program brings together expertise in international law, sustainable development, political science, and economics. Its enriched curriculum, which spans human rights, democratization, sustainability, and research methodology, helped me build a strong foundation for analytical skills and ethical grounding in practice. At the same time, an internship and a semester as an exchange student provided a platform to put my knowledge into practice and learn more. One of the unique moments for me was participating in the Summer School and Global Classroom 2024, where meeting with peers from across the world, broadened my perspective, reinforced my belief in our shared human values, and showed me the power of collaboration to tackle the global challenges we face today.
