On September 12, 2026, the Child Leadership Team (CLT) kicked off the new academic year with an inspiring strategy meeting. Fresh off the summer holidays, these passionate young leaders gathered to map out the implementation of their newest initiative: the Green Community project.
This exciting project is part of the broader Children’s Rights project implemented by Global Campus Central Asia.
What is the “Green Community” Project?
The project is designed to mobilize and strengthen the capacity of adolescents aged 14–17 in Bishkek and Almaty. It empowers them to become environmental advocates who can lead local climate solutions.
The core goals of the project include:
- Peer-to-Peer Education: Activating youth-led training across 5 pilot schools in Bishkek using the interactive Model UNICEF framework to teach global diplomacy and climate action.
- Eco-Activities: Designing campaigns that help children and youth build sustainable, conscious daily habits.
- Child-Led Research: Investigating acute local environmental crises and analyzing how they threaten children’s fundamental rights.
Academic Mentorship: Partnering with MAHRS Students
To ensure the project’s success, the CLT will be directly supported by a dedicated volunteer cohort of new MAHRS (Master of Arts in Human Rights and Sustainability) students. These mentors already bring valuable, hands-on experience in working with children and youth to promote and protect their rights.
The volunteer MAHRS students will actively engage with the CLT to provide:
- Capacity Building: Conducting specialized training sessions tailored for CLT members to strengthen their advocacy and research skills.
- Mentorship & Supervision: Guiding the adolescents through their research.
- On-the-Ground Support: Offering ongoing administrative and strategic assistance throughout the academic year.
Focusing on Bishkek’s Air Quality
During the lively discussion, CLT members demonstrated an incredible level of enthusiasm for research and advocacy. They expressed a profound interest in tackling one of Bishkek’s most critical challenges: air pollution. Backed by their experienced MAHRS mentors, the team plans to study how poor air quality directly impacts children’s rights for health, development, and education.
Moving forward, the participants suggested a variety of dynamic environmental awareness activities to engage the wider community, proving once again that the younger generation is ready to lead the charge for a cleaner, healthier future.
