Children’s Rights Cinema Club: Cybersecurity Training for Youth
On 11 April, as part of the Children’s Rights Cinema Club, a special training session on cybersecurity and digital safety was organized for its participants.
The session, titled “Cybersecurity for Teenagers: How Not to Become a Victim or a Perpetrator in the Digital Space,” was delivered by Dr. Zhyldyz Tegizbekova, a legal expert specializing in cyber law and digital rights.
The training aimed to raise awareness about the growing risks young people face online and to equip participants with practical tools for navigating the digital environment safely. As highlighted during the session, cybercrime continues to increase globally, with young people among the most vulnerable groups.
Participants explored key topics, including:
-Common types of online fraud, such as phishing, fake online stores, and financial scams
-The concept of “droppers” and how seemingly harmless online jobs can lead to criminal liability
-Risks of online manipulation and recruitment, including exposure to extremist content
-Legal aspects of cybercrime, including criminal responsibility for minors in Kyrgyzstan
Through real-life case studies and interactive discussions, participants analyzed how online scams operate, how trust is manipulated, and what warning signs to watch for. The session also emphasized the importance of emotional intelligence and critical thinking in resisting digital manipulation.
Special attention was given to practical safety measures, including protecting personal data, verifying online information, and avoiding suspicious financial transactions. Participants were encouraged to reflect on their own online behavior and adopt safer digital habits.
The session highlighted that a strong understanding of digital risks, combined with knowledge of legal frameworks, is crucial for navigating today’s digital environment safely.
