Bridging Policy and Youth: Central Asian Leaders and Advocates Gather in Tashkent for Environmental Governance Dialogue

6-7 October 2026

Kamila Saidova, an MAHRS student and representative of the EU Youth Sounding Board, participated in the Regional Policy Dialogue on Environmental Governance in Central Asia, held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on 6–7 October 2026.
The dialogue was jointly organised by the EU-funded project EU Civil Society Facility in Central Asia, implemented by UNOPS in partnership with the Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR); the EU co-funded project EU4SustainableCentralAsia: Joint Action and Coordination on Water, Energy and Climate Change; and Green Central Asia II, funded by the German Federal Foreign Office.
The event brought together high-level officials, parliamentarians, civil society representatives, youth, experts and development partners from across Central Asia to develop practical recommendations for a policy brief to inform discussions at COP31 and strengthen regional cooperation on environmental governance.
During the dialogue, Kamila presented her research proposal on Climate Governance and Youth Participation in Uzbekistan, highlighting key barriers to meaningful youth engagement in climate policymaking and exploring effective mechanisms to strengthen youth participation in environmental decision-making.
She also facilitated a session on Regional Youth Cooperation, bringing together perspectives and collecting input from participants representing five Central Asian countries to identify shared priorities and opportunities for cross-border collaboration.
The dialogue provided a valuable platform to connect youth perspectives and civil society recommendations with policy discussions, demonstrating the importance of inclusive regional
cooperation in addressing shared environmental challenges.
